Aims & Scope
The Journal of Nutrition Research (JNR) welcomes submissions addressing the accuracy, methodology, and clinical utility of digital dietary assessment tools, including calorie tracking applications, AI food recognition systems, food tracker apps, and related mHealth nutrition technologies. We publish original research, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and narrative review articles.
Article Types
- Original Research Empirical studies reporting novel findings. Maximum 6,000 words (excluding abstract, references, and figures).
- Systematic Review PRISMA 2020-compliant reviews. Pre-registration with PROSPERO required. Maximum 8,000 words.
- Meta-Analysis Quantitative synthesis with forest plots and heterogeneity statistics. Maximum 8,000 words.
- Review Article Narrative synthesis of current evidence. Maximum 6,000 words.
Manuscript Preparation
All manuscripts must include:
- Structured abstract (250 words maximum): Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions
- 5–8 keywords from the manuscript's subject area
- Full author names, institutional affiliations, and email addresses
- ORCID identifiers for all authors
- Declaration of competing interests
- Funding statement
- Data availability statement
- Ethics statement (for studies involving human participants)
Reporting Standards
Authors must follow the appropriate EQUATOR Network reporting guidelines:
- RCTs: CONSORT 2010
- Systematic reviews & meta-analyses: PRISMA 2020
- Observational studies: STROBE
- Diagnostic accuracy: STARD
File Format
Manuscripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word (.docx) or LaTeX files. Figures must be provided as separate high-resolution image files (300 dpi minimum, TIFF or EPS). Tables should be embedded in the manuscript document. References should be formatted in APA 7th edition style.
Peer Review
All submitted manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review. Author and reviewer identities are concealed throughout. A minimum of two independent expert reviewers assess each submission. Median time to first decision is 45 days. Accepted manuscripts are published online within 14 days of final acceptance.
Publication Fees
JNR is an open-access journal. Accepted articles are published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0). An article processing charge (APC) of USD 850 applies upon acceptance. Waivers are available for authors from low-income countries as classified by the World Bank. Pre-submission waiver requests are welcome.
